About GlobeMed

Mission:

GlobeMed aims to strengthen the movement for global health equity by empowering students and communities to work together to improve the health of the impoverished around the world.

GlobeMed is a national network of undergraduates determined to improve the lives of impoverished people around the world. These students, committed to global health and social justice, began collaborating and forming long-lasting relationships with grassroots organizations in developing countries. As one of the 33 GlobeMed Chapters, we, GlobeMedDuke plan to construct and raise funds for specific projects with our partner, Salud Sin Limite in Siuna, Nicaragua, and spread awareness on campus and in the community about global health issues. We also hope to send Grassroots Onsite Work (GROW) interns every summer to Nicaragua to work with our partner.  Together we can improve the lives of many in poverty, and gain the skills and experiences necessary to advance our cause.

Current Project:
2010-2011: Community Garden
This two acre community garden will provide fresh produce for the local people to eat and sell, and an opportunity for the families, especially youth, to collectively participate in a constructive project.  It will bring beauty to the neighborhood and foster a sense of community to the town.

2010: GlobeMed HillTop Summit at UNC
